You can have delicious and memorable food for your day without spending tens of thousands of dollars. The secret? Have a food truck cater your wedding.
As a wedding photographer, I can’t even begin to tell you the amount of times I’ve eaten mashed potatoes and chicken at a wedding.
I love mashed potatoes as much as the next gal, so you won’t see me throwing shade, but more and more couples are looking for something that fits their vibe better.
Something memorable, tasty, and NOT 30 thousand dollars. My husband, Dewey and I, are Denver foodies and we knew we wanted to incorporate some local food in a fun way for our not-so-big day.
Think you might be more of a food truck than a formal catering kinda couple?
Read on to explore the 5 main reasons we decided to have a food truck cater– and why you should do it too!
The first reason to love food trucks is for their speed. Food trucks have a streamlined process, often preparing plenty of food in advance. That way your guests won’t have to wait for their food to be plated or their buffet number to be called.
At our wedding, the truck had pies at the ready and continued making fresh ones throughout dinner. It helps guests get fed much faster and makes it more likely that your guests will get to enjoy their food together. After all, no one wants to be the last table called for the buffet.
Secondly, Food trucks are also usually cheaper than other catering options. This leaves more room for other vendors, a fancier honeymoon– or if you’re feeling *financially responsible*– more money saved.
For comparison, while a traditional catering might cost $100/plate, a food truck could be as cheap as $15/plate. Most guests are thrilled to see casual favorites like burgers, pizza, and tacos.
Our wedding had an aesthetic food truck and plenty of pizza for 50 guests. We paid $2400. This came out to a total of $48/plate for unlimited pizza, salad, and an entire array of specialty hot sauces.
We still think back on this as one of the best decisions we made for our day. Our guests were so happy, the pizza was delicious, and we didn’t break the bank to pull it off.
You’d be amazed how accommodating food trucks can be for vegans, vegetarians, and even gluten-free eaters.
Our wedding had several vegetarian pizzas (and even a vegan pizza) added for the same cost. Most trucks nowadays want to make sure your guests are fed and happy, and have ways to make that happen if you request it in advance.
This also makes it easy when it comes to sending out your invites, because all you need to ask is about dietary preferences, not specific meal options. Then you can give that info to the catering service so they can make sure there is something delicious for your all your guests.
Most trucks will let the couple go inside for some photos and a little taste-testing! This was SO much fun on our day and made for some moody, silly shots I will always cherish.
Your guests will be posting pics on their stories and referencing your food for years to come.

Don’t feel stressed about our guests getting their dinner. Food trucks couldn’t be more laid back. We had already tried Outside Pizza and knew it was our fave. So all we had to do was email their team to set up the catering for our day.
The entire experience was seamless, stress-free, and most importantly, really fucking delicious.
Your guests are in the mood for something different than boring wedding food. And what better way to add a laid-back vibe to a typically formal event than with a food truck?
Outside Pizza absolutely nailed the catering for our day. The pizza was delicious (and our guests were well- fed for a night of shredding it on the dance floor.)
